IAMAS, part of IUGG within ICSU
The international organisation of scientific networks resembles the common subdivisions
of the atmosphere in scales (i.e. global, synoptic, meso-, micro-scale ... ).
While IAMAS contains International Commissions, it forms itself a
constituent part of IUGG. This
International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics also contains seven other
International Associations for different physically orientated fields
within the Earth Sciences.

In turn, IUGG is one of the 30 Scientific Union members of the
International Council for Science
(1931 founded as International Council for Scientific Unions; still ICSU for short).
