Membership of the ICPAE is by election and is free, with no annual subscriptions required. As one of the 50+ elected members, this gives you the opportunity to apply for a number of funding sources within IUGG and IAMAS, and we encourage any member wishing to take advantage of this to contact the ICPAE Bureau as soon as possible.
IUGG Support (31 October 2021 deadline)
The final proposal should be submitted to the ICPAE bureau by 8 October 2021.
The program of IUGG support for scientific meetings (e.g. workshops, advanced schools, symposia) is one of the most important means by which the Union and its Associations pursue a goal of promoting geophysics and geodesy through international collaboration. A fraction of the IUGG’s budget is devoted to the support of these scientific meetings.
Limited funding is available from the IUGG for scientific meetings with topics covered by the IUGG and ICPAE.
The following guidelines for obtaining IUGG sponsorship should be observed by prospective proposers:
- An IUGG-sponsored scientific meeting should have a well-defined and scientifically relevant theme, should be scheduled at a propitious time for significant progress in the field, and should be of interest to young researchers as well as senior experts.
- While the IUGG embraces all fields in geophysics and geodesy, a proposed program should maintain a balanced scope relevant to IUGG Associations. Each proposal will be judged on its own scientific merits.
- Given the international nature of the Union, meetings are by definition internationally oriented. This requires a well-balanced geographical and gender distribution.
The request for support must specify all entries listed below:
- Name of meeting, venue and dates
- Primary sponsors and other known co-sponsors
- Name and address of the Chair of the Local Organizing Committee
- The meeting website
- Scientific objective and scope of the meeting
- Estimated number of participants, abstracts, and sessions
- Level of support requested (in US$) and explanation of how the money will be used
- Additional information as appropriate
The number of co-sponsored meetings ranges from 10 to 15 (up to US$2,000 each), and the past grant programs can be found here (http://www.iugg.org/programs/grants_awarded.php). The deadline for the project proposal submission to IUGG is 31 October 2021, but all IUGG requests must first be sent to IAMAS for review and forwarding. The deadline for IAMAS consideration of proposals for IUGG funds is 15 October 2021.
ICPAE members wishing to bid for IUGG support should contact the ICPAE bureau with an indication of interest no later than one month before the corresponding IUGG proposal deadline, and the final proposal should be submitted to the ICPAE bureau by 8 October 2021. When there are more than one IUGG proposal submitted by ICPAE members in a single round, ICPAE bureau may submit a recommendation to corresponding IUGG committee(s).

Within 2 months after the meeting, a meeting report must be sent to the IUGG Secretary-General via the ICPAE Bureau and must contain:
- a brief technical report summarizing the scientific highlights of the meeting (1-2 pages);
- a copy of the final scientific program;
- a list of participants, including their distribution by gender and country; and
- a list of recipients of IUGG grants, stating amount, country, age, and gender.
IAMAS Support (15 October 2021 deadline)
The final proposal should be submitted to the ICPAE bureau by 8 October 2021.
The IAMAS supports scientific meetings that have high scientific standards (e.g. workshops, advanced schools, symposia) organized by our commissions. These should cover a balanced spectrum of topics relevant to our association. In the hopes that many postponed and new meetings will be held in the coming year, we are accepting proposals for financial support. Commissions must send their requests for financial support for the coming calendar year (2022) to IAMAS@gmail.com by 15 October 2021.
Funding to support meetings typically ranges from 500 to 5,000 USD but we will consider larger sums in exceptional circumstances. Unfortunately, not all meeting proposals can be fully supported by IAMAS. The following guidelines for obtaining IAMAS sponsorship should be considered in your request:
- The requesting organization must be a commission of IAMAS, and the scientific meeting should have a well-defined and scientifically relevant theme.
- Requests should consider how the event supports early career researchers.
- Requests should not cover administrative costs.
- Given our international nature, the request should demonstrate how it will support a well-balanced geographical distribution of participants.
ICPAE members wishing to bid for IAMAS support should contact the ICPAE bureau by 8 October 2021.
