C. Martin R. Platt (1933-2012)

Martin, a distinguished physicist, worked for many years at CSIRO, the Australian Scientific Research Organization. There he was a Senior Principal Research Scientist and studied cloud physics. His research, collaborating with NASA, sent up instruments on the Explorer spacecraft, and he led Australia’s contribution to the U.S. Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Program.

In 2004, Martin received the prestigious ICLAS (International Coordination-group for Laser Atmospheric Studies) Lifetime Achievement Award.
