This is a quadrennial meeting where radiation scientists from the world to come together and share up-to-minute sciences, and the Symposium will be hosted by Prof. Alkiviadis Bais at the Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics (LAP), School of Physics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Last IRS was held at Auckland, New Zealand in 2016. We pay sincere respect to the indomitable spirit of the people facing the serious damage caused by the earthquake and associated tsunami and who are working to recover from this situation. As scientists, we want to express our will to make any and all contributions that we can to ease and mitigate the difficulties that result from the earthquake and associated tsunami.<br><br>The government, ministries, related organizations, and academic communities are now trying to collect and analyze all the information and scientific data associated with the earthquake and damage caused by the earthquake, so that the public can take deliberate action based on the information issued by the government and related organizations to minimize the adverse impacts on public health and society. At the same time, we believe that government and related organizations<br>should appropriately share and transmit scientific information to ensure that the best information can be provided to the public.<br><br>There is a great need for scientists to carry out immediate and thorough analyses of accurate atmospheric, oceanic, and environmental observations and models to provide advice to the government, ministries, and the public, who rely on the disclosure of observations and data from the government and related organizations. We urgently solicit the collaboration of all scientists to work together toward such goals. Twelve students from eleven<br>countries received travel awards of 1000 USD each to attend the IRS.<br><br>The Science Programme included presentations in 10 sessions plus 11 union talks, including lectures by<br>the recipients of the IRC Young Scientist Award (Robert Levy), and the Gold Medal Award (Kuo-Nan Liou).<br><br>The IRS2012 Proceedings papers will be published online by AIP with open access in perpetuity, and be<br>searchable and downloadable.<br><br>The 2012 IRC Business Meeting was also held at the Dahlem Cube during the week of the IRS. Thirty-three<br>participants from 11 countries attended, including 2 emeritus presidents. Four recently deceased atmospheric<br>science researchers were remembered:<br>Georgio Fiocco (1931-2012)<br>Gregory Leptoukh (1953-2012)<br>C. Martin R. Platt (1933-2012) and<br>James Weinman (1930-2012).<br><br>New Officers were elected for the 2012-2016 term of the IRC: Werner Schmutz, President, PMOD\/WRC (SUI);<br>B.J. Sohn, Vice-President, Seoul National Univ.
