{"id":1544,"date":"2023-03-09T23:15:44","date_gmt":"2023-03-09T23:15:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iamas.org\/irc\/?page_id=1544"},"modified":"2025-07-30T15:48:46","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T14:48:46","slug":"total-and-spectral-solar-irradiance","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.iamas.org\/irc\/total-and-spectral-solar-irradiance\/","title":{"rendered":"Total and Spectral Solar Irradiance (TSSI) Working Group"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Total and Spectral Solar Irradiance Working Group aims to facilitate the proper representation of total solar irradiance (TSI) and solar spectral irradiance (SSI) on multiple time scales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Leads\/Contacts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chair: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iamas.org\/irc\/contact-information-odele-coddington\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"765\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Odele Coddington<\/a>, Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mission Statement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To serve as an expert resource on total solar irradiance (TSI) and solar spectral irradiance (SSI), which are critical data records for a wide range of Earth and atmospheric science applications, including radiative transfer modeling, the development and application of remote sensing algorithms, instrument radiometric calibration and intercalibration, and climate studies using global atmospheric models such as general circulation and chemistry transport models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Specify and understand solar irradiance and its variability using measurements and models.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Define application-based requirements on solar irradiance measurements, including absolute accuracy, spectral range and resolution, and temporal variability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communicate recommendations to national and international scientific organizations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>Membership\/Participation<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People interested in joining may contact the working group lead.
