The 27th General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) will take place from 8 to 18 July 2019 in Montréal, Québec, Canada.

The IAMAS special events are as follows:

Celebrating 100 years of IAMAS 1919-2019 – Past, Present and Future

Date: 10 July 8:30 – 12:00 / Room: 517

In 2019 IAMAS will be celebrating its 100th anniversary. To mark this important event the association will hold a half day symposium that will look back at the remarkable advances that have taken place in the atmospheric sciences over the last century, consider current outstanding questions and look forward to possible future developments. The symposium will consist of the keynote presentations by world-leading experts in various branches of the atmospheric sciences:

  • The International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science: One Hundred Years of Research Challenges and Accomplishments: J. Fleming
  • Satellite remote sensing: Achievements, challenges, and future progress: B.J. Sohn
  • The Changing Atmospheric Pollution and Chemistry, observed from Space in the Anthropocene: J.P. Burrows
  • Climate Change: From Knowledge to Action: T. Stocker
  • Atmospheres of planetary bodies other than the Earth: A. Coustenis
  • Weather Prediction: Progress and Prospects: A. Brown

IAMAS Early Career Scientist Award Ceremony

The Award Committee chaired by IAMAS Vice President Joyce Penner will present Lei Bi with the medal.

IAMAS Early Career Scientist Event

Date: 11 July 18:00 – 21:00 / Room: 510C

IAMAS is working hard to help early career scientists advance in the world of atmospheric sciences and show the value of organisations such as IAMAS. The event will give you a chance to hear about IAMAS, a career of the ECS Awardee and early career scientist organisations, and allow you to network with your colleagues. IUGG Fellowship Award Ceremony

Date: 17 July 16:30 – 18:00 / Room: 517

We are pleased to announce that the IUGG Honorary Membership (Fellowship) is conferred on:

  • John Turner, the President of IAMAS
  • Teruyuki Nakajima, the Secretary-General of IAMAS
  • Athena Coustenis, the former President of IAMAS
  • Hans Volkert, the former Secretary-General of IAMAS

At the IUGG 2019 Closing Ceremony, they will be bestowed a Fellowship Medal, Certificate and IUGG pin by the IUGG President.
