The Cape Town Scientific Assembly

Over 27 August – 1 September 2017 almost 1,000 scientists attended the IAPSO-IAMAS-IAGA assembly in Cape Town, with 36% coming from IAMAS. IAMAS led 11 joint symposia and also organised 15 IAMAS-only sessions.

There was some excellent science presentations, which covered many topical issues, such as climate change, vertical coupling in the atmosphere, atmosphere-ocean interactions, atmospheric chemistry and clouds. In addition, there was a plenary session for the whole IAMAS community to discuss the possible future direction of our association.

There was also an early career scientist event one evening where younger atmospheric scientists could network with IAMAS officers and members of early career scientist organisations. In addition, there were a number of IAMAS business meetings concerned with commission activities and planning for IUGG 2019.
