Satellites

• Sentinel-5 on board the EUMETSAT METOP-SG satellite was just launched successfully in Kourou, French Guiana. Sentinel-5 is a similar instrument as s5p/TROPOMI. METOP-SG will go to a morning sun-synchronous orbit and will follow GOME-2. METOP-SG also carries IASI-NG and 3 MI- which is a Polder type of instrument (aerosols).

Modeling

• HTAP3 activities are ongoing and in the UK this work is being coordinated by UK Met Office colleagues. HTAP3 has just developed a new initiative around wildfire emissions based on a white paper: https://gmd.copernicus.org/articles/18/3265/2025/.

Field Campaigns

• The UK is supporting a new aircraft campaign in 2027 based in Cape Verde and Ghana to examine tropospheric oxidation with a focus on key uncertainties in NOx recycling, heterogeneous chlorine release and biomass burning. The project team is in discussion with African partners.
